First Tea Auction 2018: PT. KPBN Hopes Tea Sales Can Grow. The Tea Auction event was officially opened by Seger Budiarjo as the HCM & General Director of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 09.30 WIB in the KPBN Head Office, Jl. Cut Meutia, Jakarta. This event was attended by the Board of Directors of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara, the Board of Commissioners of PT. KPBN, the Indonesian Tea Board, the Indonesian Tea Association, the Chair and all Members of the Jakarta Tea Buyers Association (JTBA), and tea buyer partners. In his remarks, the Acting President Director of KPBN, Iman Bimantara said that the 2018 commodity trading activities in PT. KPBN were again carried out with the opening of the Plantation product trade transaction through the implementation of Auction sales for tea commodities. He said that the tea was the result of PTPN IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and XII with CTC and Orthodox types. Iman also added that the decrease in the CTC type was due to the fact that in 2017, there was a shift from the CTC type to Orthodox production of PTPN VI & VII. The average price recorded in 2017 for the Orthodox type for Quality I Export Avg. US$1.68/Kg, Quality I Local Avg US$1.49 while Quality I Export CTC US$1.97, and Quality I Local US$1.68 (Auction Price). `During the 2-year period of 2016 and 2017, the market absorption for commodity sales was still dominated by the Local market, namely in 2016 Local 61% and Export 39%, in 2017 Local absorption became 63% and Export 37% of the delivery realization party of tea at PT. KPBN. The export destination countries are Malaysia, UAE, the Netherlands, the USA, Poland, Pakistan, and the UK,` explained Iman. Iman Bimantara added that the growth of active buyers at the Jakarta Tea Auction in 2017 was recorded and ranked the top three as PT Trijasa Prima Intl, PT Unilever Tbk, and PT Anugerah Tetap Makmur Sentosa. Companies that participated in the 2018 First Tea Auction were CV Padakersa, Trijasa, Trigaluh, Vann Rees, AgriJaya, Intraco, Unilever, Finlay, Kinami Sarana Mandiri, Suruchi, KBP Chakra, CV Gudang Teh, Expertindo, Indoglobal Galang Pamitra, and Pucuk Mas. The 2018 First Tea Auction event closed with a friendly greeting and lunch together.

Commodity Prices Lift Export Performance. The head of the central statistics bureau (BPS) Suhariyanto stated that Indonesia's overall export performance this year is better compared to 2016. The main driving factor is an increase in the price of various commodities, such as coal.
 
BPS recorded Indonesia's export value as of November 2017 at US$ 15.28 billion or a 0.26% increase compared to October 2017. Cumulatively, RI's total export from January-November 2017 reached US$ 153.90 billion or a 17.75% growth (year on year).
 
Furthermore, the value of imports in November was US$ 15.15 billion or a 6.42% increase (month to month/mtm). Cumulatively, the value of imports from January-November 2017 reached US$141.88 billion or a 15.47% increase.
 
Thus, the balance of RI's trade value in November 2017 recorded a surplus of US$ 0.13 billion. In the meantime, the trade balance from January- November 2017 recorded a surplus of US$12.01 billion or larger compared to the same period the previous year at US$9.53 billion.
 
He disclosed that the growth in non-oil/gas export value in November 2017 included vegetable fats and oils at 8.04%, iron and steel at 29.97%, knitted goods at 74.70%, and footwear at 11.34%.
 
`That is why we are optimistic that exports will contribute to the economic growth in quarter IV/2017, like in quarter III/2017,` he explained.

The General Secretary of the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (Gapki) Togar Sitanggang said that in October the total volume of Indonesian crude palm oil exports (excluding biodiesel and oleochemicals) could only reach 2.60 million tonnes or down by 5.60% compared to the previous month. But for all palm oil sector, national exports during January-October 2017 reached 26.73 million tons. Whereas, in 2016, the total realization of crude palm oil exports was only 26.57 million tons, he said in Jakarta yesterday.
 
Throughout October 2017, the Indian and Pakistani palm oil market was weak, resulting in a decrease in Indonesian crude palm oil exports to the two countries and also led to a decrease in total Indonesian crude palm oil exports. Meanwhile, Indonesia's crude palm oil stocks until the end of October were recorded to have increased 16% from the previous month, or from 2.92 million tons in September to 3.38 million tons in October 2017.
 
The increasing domestic crude palm oil due to increased production and decreased export performance. Meanwhile, Pakistan recorded a significant decline in demand for crude palm oil from Indonesia, of 32%, or from 211,520 thousand tons in September to 144,260 thousand tons in October. The decrease is due to the active use ofcrushing plant in the country which triggered high imports of soybeans and canola, also because the price is a strong factor for Pakistan in determining the volume of crude palm oil purchases. India also follows Pakistan by recording a 16% decrease in demand, or from 650,750 thousand tons in September to 544,170 thousand tons in October.

In terms of price, throughout October 2017, global crude palm oil prices moved in the range of US $ 700-735 per metric ton (mt) with the average price of US $ 719.40 per mt. Carrying the theme of `Reborn: New Generation and Innovation,` PT KPBN is trying to be reborn and revive with new transformations and innovations. In his speech, according to the Acting President Director of PT KPBN, Iman Bimantara, explained that `in 2018, the innovations that will be carried out and strengthened by the company included developing an internet-based electronic tender (e-tender) mechanism for all main plantation commodities and organizing export sales at night to create new different market habitats`.  Iman added `other than celebrating the Company's Anniversary, today PT KPBN is also launching the company's New Brand Identity.`  `The PT KPBN atmosphere will be brighter with dominant green colors that represent the plantation business sector atmosphere and prosperity. PTPN III's Cooking Oil Factory Operates in May 2018. `As of November 24, the factory development has reached 54 percent completion,” said PTPN III Holding Perkebunan Nusantara’s Corporate Secretary, Furqan Tanzala, in a press release on Tuesday (28/11/2017). PT INL will also sell stearin and palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) to PT Unilever Oleochemical Indonesia and PT Unilever Trading Indonesia. Both prospective buyers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with INL one day prior. The investment is valued at Rp 750 billion in the factory, which is a joint venture between PTPN III and PTPN IV, with share ownership of 51 percent and 49 percent respectively. The processing facility is built on 2,000 hectares of land, with a planned production capacity of 600,000 tons per year and a requirement for 2,000 tons of CPO per day. The supply of raw materials will come from PTPN III and IV, at 1,000 tons each. The Director of Human Capital Management and General Affairs of PTPN III, Seger Budiarjo, stated that the presence of the cooking oil factory has the potential to affect the sales of the company’s palm oil abroad. Over the first ten months of this year, the company produced 1.9 million tons of CPO and CPKO. All of this palm oil will be sold through PT Kharisma Pemasaran Bersama Nusantara (KPBN), a subsidiary of PTPN III, at an auction price of Rp 8,200 per kilogram. The vegetable oil is then marketed to processing factories and exported. “It won’t be an issue, because later we will get added value for the cooking oil,” he said. The company is still reviewing whether the cooking oil will have its own brand or it will be sold to other parties. Besides the subsidiary with Unilever, PTPN III signed an MoU with several other BUMN and private companies. The 14 PTPN holdings signed a cooperation agreement for the distribution of natural gas with PT Pertagas, a sales and purchase of gas agreement with Pertagas Niaga, a cooperation agreement for the use of dry ports with PT Kereta Api Logistik (Kalog), and a land use agreement with PT Alternatif Protein Indonesia. PTPN III also signed an MoU with PT All Cosmos Indonesia as a prospective investor in the construction of a bio fertilizer factory. “We hope that the signing of the agreement and the MoU will increasingly accelerate the development of investment and infrastructure in the Sei Mangkei KEK (industrial estate),” said Furqan. Realization of investment in infrastructure and industrial development in the Sei Mangkei KEK has now reached Rp 3.99 trillion. The Tingkat Penggunaan Lahan (occupation rate) in the KEK is 212 hectares, or 10.96 percent of the total KEK area, at 1,933.8 hectares. Furqan explained that PT Alternatif Protein Indonesia (PT API) requires 51 hectares of land to develop alternative protein industries and black soldier flies (BSF) to build insect bio reactors (IBR) valued at US$ 500 million. API plans a groundbreaking in January 2018. “They have already paid the first down payment for land compensation of 51 hectares on November 23 for Rp 1.3 billion and will pay the rest in full in the next four months,” he explained Meanwhile, PT All Cosmos Indonesia requires 7 hectares of land, with an estimated investment of US$ 30 million. All Cosmos will develop the fertilizer industry (biochemical fertilizer).
