PTPN TEA SALES: Export Market Becomes the Driver. Thus, PT KPBN is targeting sales of 52,000 tons this year. This target is in line with the increasing production figures for tea managed by PT KPBN's parent company, PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (a plantation holding company), and the expansion of export markets. KPBN Operations Director Ery Erwin Efendi said that his company will focus increasingly on expanding existing export markets and creating new markets throughout 2018. PT KPBN has set an export target of 17,457 tons, or 33% of total sales this year. This figure represents a 10% increase over last year's export volume of 15,870 tons. `[For] 2018, with increasing volume we will open up new markets. Ery explained that Indonesian tea, which up to this point has been exported abroad by traders, still lags behind in terms of quality compared to the products of other large producing countries, such as India, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Turkey. Besides the expansion of export markets, domestic market absorption is also expected to increase. Ery explained that domestic tea consumption has always been high. This year, domestic sales volume is targeted to increase 26.85% to 34,543 tons. Ery explained that at this time, the majority of Indonesian tea consumers still prefer orthodox black tea, which is processed using a mixture of manual techniques and machines.   QUALITY Meanwhile, based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture, domestic tea production for this year is predicted to increase to 140,084 tons, with a cultivated area of 113,808 hectares (ha). The Ministry of Agriculture's Director General of Plantations, Bambang, acknowledged that despite the growth, the increase in domestic tea production, which is less than 1% compared to last year, is indeed very small. However, he explained that increased production must also consider the needs of the international market and the quality of domestic tea, so that demand can continue to increase. `Yes it is still small, but we are directing it towards quality. Indonesia's Palm Oil Exports Hit Record High in 2017. The Secretary General of Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI) Togar Sitanggang said, Indonesia’s palm oil increased by 23 percent from 25.11 million tons in 2016 to 31.05 million tons in 2017. The foreign exchange contribution of Indonesia’s palm oil also increased. This is in line with the increase in export volume and price, which is quite good.
In 2017, the export value of Indonesia’s palm oil reached USD22.97 billion. This figure increased by 26 percent compared to 2016, which reached USD18.22 billion.
`This export value is the highest value throughout the history of Indonesia’s palm oil exports,` said Togar in a press conference at the GAPKI Head Office, Tuesday (1/30/2018).
GAPKI also noted, almost all main destination countries for Indonesia’s palm oil exports recorded increased demand. The main destination countries for Indonesia’s palm oil exports are India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the United States, the European Union, and Africa.
 
Indonesia’s palm oil demand from India increased by 32 percent. Meanwhile, the demand from China increased by 16 percent, African countries 50 percent, and the European Union 15 percent.
 
Meanwhile, the demand from Pakistan increased by 7 percent, the United States increased by 9 percent, Bangladesh increased by 36 percent and the Middle East countries increased by 7 percent.
According to Togar, the Indonesian palm oil industry has also faced a number of trade barriers from several countries. The U.S. has implemented an antidumping policy on Indonesian biodiesel products.
Meanwhile, the European Union Parliament Resolution refers to a ban on palm-based biodiesel. Because, this product is considered to still cause various problems, such as deforestation, corruption, child labor and human rights violations.
India also doubled the import tax on palm oil. The Australian Senate also re-submitted the Competition and Consumer Amendment Bill (Truth in Labeling-Palm Oil).
Togar believes that trade barriers are very ironic due to export performance that still increases significantly. This shows that palm oil is still a vegetable oil that is very vital to the world and will continue to be needed in line with the population growth.
Efforts to do trade barriers, he added, will continue to be undertaken because the competition is trade vegetable oil increasingly tight. Therefore, the government is requested to be astute in viewing the problem.

Europe Opens the Door to Biodiesel Market Access.  Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita said as much from Islamabad, Pakistan, on Friday (26/1).

`This is clearly a comprehensive victory for Indonesia that will of course swing open wide the doors of market access and reenergize export performance of biodiesel to the EU for Indonesian producers after it had previously been depressed by the imposition of anti-dumping duties on the product,` the minister said as quoted from the Ministry of Trade's official website.
 
The EU has been imposing anti-dumping duties on Indonesian biodiesel since 2013, with a dumping margin of 8.8%-23.3%.
 
Since then, exports of Indonesian biodiesel to the EU have declined.
 
According to statistics from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in the period from 2013 to 2016 Indonesian biodiesel exports to the EU declined by 42.84%, from $649 million in 2013 to $150 million in 2016.
 
The lowest value for biodiesel exports from Indonesia to the EU occurred in 2015, when they were only worth $68 million.
 
This victory has given Indonesian biodiesel exporters/producers hope.

As reported by Antara, President Joko Widodo is convinced that his state visit to Pakistan will be a new cohesiveness to strengthen cooperation and friendship of both countries. For that, President Jokowi focuses on three main bilateral issues, namely economic cooperation, people-to-people contacts, and cooperation for Palestine.
 
President Jokowi said that the total value of trade after the implementation of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the two countries has increased significantly since 2013. In 2016, it reached US$ 2.10 billion or grew by approximately 8.90% per year. To continue to increase trade, President Jokowi welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for Joint Trade Promotion. “I welcome the formation of a joint venture for storage and processing of palm oil in the Port of Qosim, Karachi.
