Government is still finalizing moratorium on palm oil plantation permit. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution in Jakarta on Tuesday, said the five-year moratorium on oil palm plantation permits is quite complex, because it has a major impact on the community and companies. `What factors should be considered if this moratorium is carried out? How to enforce the law and the homework that must be done,` said Darmin while chairing the continuation of a coordination meeting on the moratorium on oil palm plantation permits. According to him, this plan is still in the finalization process, by considering various suggestions and considerations, before being presented at a cabinet meeting and stipulated as a Presidential Instruction.Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar said the discussion process on the moratorium on oil palm plantation permits has entered into determining several categories of delays. She ensured this moratorium is aimed at controlling the permit process so that there is no expansion of opening new oil palm plantations, encouraging the rejuvenation of plants, and increasing productivity and downstream development.  Thus, the entrepreneurs must change their mindset from extensification of increasing production through efforts to expand plantation areas, to the intensification of the use of existing land for downstream. Siti, however, stressed one of the cores of this moratorium is to accommodate the needs of small communities that make a living from this horticultural sector to protect them from being marginalized. `The status of the people who earn income from palm oil must be protected, she said. Overall, the moratorium on oil palm plantation permits has the spirit of not giving new permits for the release of forests and peatlands to become oil palm plantations. In addition, this policy is also to provide legal certainty for oil palm plantations, including peoples oil palm plantations that happen to be located in government forest areas.  The government also wants to increase the productivity of oil palm plantations, promote the development of downstream industries, and improve the standards of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO).

Palm oil plantation moratorium, Ministry of Industry encourages productivity. `There will be a moratorium for oil palm lands, the Industry Ministry will encourage productivity of existing lands to increase production,` said Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta, Tuesday.Furthermore, Airlangga continued, the Industry Ministry will also encourage added value of the product, for example Crude Palm Oil (CPO) to its derivative products. `So, we are increasing production by increasing productivity from plantation to downstream. We even encourage green products. So, of course its derivative products are also environmentally friendly,` Airlangga said.It is known that President Joko Widodo said that the government will temporarily stop or have a moratorium for oil palm land concession in several provinces. President Jokowi explained that oil palm plants take too long to produce because farmers have not used good seedlings and because of the delay in replanting the trees.

PT RNI and PTPN Asked to Accelerate the Importation of 114,000 Tons of Raw Sugar. Impor raw sugar atau gula mentah sebanyak 114.000 ton sebelumnya telah dikeluarkan Kemenperin untuk lima BUMN yakni, PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI), PTPN IX, PTPN X, PTPN XI, dan PTPN XII.
Panggah mengatakan, salah satu upaya untuk menurunkan harga gula pasir yang saat ini menembus Rp 16.000 per kilogram (kg) adalah dengan menambah pasokan.
`Ya rekomendasi yang sudah kita keluarkan itu, segera direalisasikan. Ini belum banyak yang terealisasi,` kata Panggah ditemui usai rapat koordinasi di Kantor Kementerian Koordinator Bidang Perekonomian, Jakarta, Selasa (26/7/2016).
Memang diakui Panggah, saat ini sangat susah untuk mencari pasokan raw sugar dikarenakan produksi dunia menurun akibat perubahan iklim La Nina.
Negara-negara pemasok raw sugar seperti Thailand dan Brazil pun mengalami penurunan produksi.
Akibatnya, harga raw sugar juga mengalami peningkatan sekitar 25-28 persen per tonnya.
Karena itu Panggah berharap agar BUMN yang sudah mengantongi rekomendasi impor bisa merealisasikannya sebelum September 2016.
`Tadi kan pak Menko berharap agar harga gula pasir ini bisa Rp 12.500 per kg di akhir tahun,` pungkas Panggah.

Hamied, HR and General Director of Pelindo I said that the program is named Siswa Mengenal Nusantara (Students Get to Know the Archipelago). To send those students, Pelindo disbursed Rp4 billion in CSR funds. `Pelindo and PTP N V provides life insurance of Rp1 billion to the students. This year, Pelindo I disbursed 4% of the total profit of last year, which reached Rp715 billion,` he said, Friday (08/05/2016). This CSR program is a program for education, culture, and entrepreneurship. These students are able to understand how vast the archipelago is. Meanwhile Riau Provincial Education Bureau Head, Khamsol, supported the program facilitated by the two State-Owned Enterprises. He appreciated the program of those companies because they are developing child education. `We appreciate it. Because the state-owned companies are watching out for the education of children who are the hope of the nation,` he said. Khamsol also expects other companies in Riau to keep watching out for the education of children in the province. Those selected students are from schools from Pekanbaru and other regions. The students who were selected are those who are achievers and active in school. The students leave on Friday (08/05/2016). The students will seek knowledge and experience in North Kalimantan for a week.

Although the number of Islamic economy experts only reached 131 in Indonesia, which is lower than Malaysia's 205, the number of Islamic financial institutions has reached 150. This number exceeds Malaysia's 100 Sharia financial institutions, Mustafa said. He added that Bangladesh, which has 174 Islamic economic experts, only has 50 Sharia financial institutions.  According to him, there is a strong correlation between the number of Islamic economic experts and the completeness of Islamic financial regulations in a country. Mustafa continued that Indonesia's abundant natural resources and strategic geographical location provide numerous opportunities for economic development, especially in the Sharia financial industry. Thomson Reuters ranks Indonesia as the world's largest halal food market with a value of Rp2,063 trillion in 2014, followed by Turkey with a value of Rp1,432 trillion.`Now, with the government's drafting and implementation of Sharia economic regulations, the Islamic finance industry is expected to grow as a strong and sustainable sector without losing the unique Sharia values of its products and services,` Mustafa said.

Taiwanese buyer interested in Banaran coffee. The event is part of \`Tour de Coffee 2016\` organized by the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (KDEI) in Taipei, Taiwan.
According to the Deputy of KDEI, Taipei Siswandi, Tour de Coffee 2016 was the second series ever which was attended by coffee importers, coffee shop owners, coffee roasters, and coffee enthusiasts or coffee writers from agricultural media in Taiwan.
They were invited to see directly the coffee making process, starting from the very first step of picking the beans in the plantations to processing in the factory.
`We want to introduce the quality of Indonesian coffee beans better, and attract buyers to purchase the coffee directly from producers and exporters,` Siswandi said in the sidelines of the visit.
He also added that the 2016 Tour de Coffee was started with a visit to the coffee plantation managed by PT Golden Malabar Indonesia in Pengalengan, West Java.
Next, they visited the coffee plantation of PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN IX) in Bawen and Jambu, Semarang District, and the plantation of PT Taman Delta Indonesia in Gunung Kelir, Jambu, Semarang District.
Apart from visiting the coffee plantations, KDEI also coordinated the buyers to have one-on-one meetings with coffee exporters in West Java and Central Java.
The meeting is expected to shorten the usually long business chains, so that the export value of Indonesian coffee to Taiwan will continue to increase.
`Up to now, Taiwan buyers buy our coffee products through traders in Hongkong, Japan, Singapore or even the United States. By organizing this meeting, they can get a cheaper price by directly dealing with producers and exporters,` he explained.
Siswandi added that based on KDEI's trade records in Taipei, the export value of Indonesian coffee to Taiwan in the last 3 years, market demand has seen a significant rise.
In 2013, Indonesia exported 5.21 million tons of coffee to Taiwan with a total value of 16.81 million USD, rising to 6.73 million tons with a total value of 21.35 million USD in 2014. In 2016, it increased to 7.10 million tons with a total value of 23.53 million USD.
`This is in line with the increase in the number of coffee shops in Taiwan in the past 3 years, which has grown by 45-50 percent annually,` said Siswandi.
Impressed
One of the buyers from Shanghai Company, Miss Jeni Liu, said that she was very impressed with the visit. She said that it was her first time seeing a coffee plantation and a coffee factory in person.
She never thought that the coffee plantations in Indonesia would be so vast. `I am very impressed, it turns out the process of making coffee is very complex and long. The coffee plantations are also huge, I have some in Taiwan, but they're not this size,` said Miss Jeni when met at the PTPN 9 coffee plantation in Bawen.
Through a visit and a direct meeting with producers and coffee exporters in Indonesia, which was organized by KDEI, Taipei, Miss Jeni hopes that she can increase her coffee import volume from Indonesia.
The reason is that she can get coffee with high quality and a price that is much more affordable, compared to buying through a trader.
`Compared to other Asian countries, even Columbia and South America who are well-known for their coffee production, the coffee from Bandung and Banaran has good quality. Moreover, the distance from Indonesia to Taiwan is closer, so we can save more on the cost,` she added.
