Government Releases the VIII Economic Policy Package.  Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that this packet was released to anticipate the developments and competitive ability of the government in the domestic and global economic market. Moreover, the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is just around the corner.`Because we have to be ready to welcome the AEC and the government is preparing by joining with various things. It is time to change our ways under Pak Darmin's leadership in the Coordinating Ministry of Economy. There will be a policy package that will be submitted,` he said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (21/12/2015).He mentioned that there were three points in the economic policy package. Including the implementation of the one map policy at a national level with a scale of 1:50.000, building energy efficiency through increased development and construction of oil refineries in the country, and thirdly related to national flight incentives for aircraft purchasing service companies.`This has been prepared by the government. Hopefully this 8th package will further improve our economic competitiveness. It was proven when the Fed raised its interest rates yesterday, our economic resilience improved,` he concluded. (akr)

Getting even cheaper: Oil falls to 11-year low. The drop is in line with signals that global oil supply will again exceed demand next year. Brent crude oil prices fell further than U.S. crude prices as the market anticipated the end of a 40-year-old ban on U.S. crude oil exports. President Barack Obama signed a rule on Friday (18/12/2015) that lifted the ban on crude oil exports. Brent crude fell 51 cents to $36.35 a barrel, its lowest since July 2004. While U.S. crude rose 1 cent to $34.74 a barrel after tumbling to $33.98 a barrel. `The fundamentals are very bearish. The warm weather is killing the market and the overhang of supply is weighing on prices,` said Phil Flynn, analyst at Price Futures Group in Chicago, as quoted from Reuters. Although consumers enjoy low fuel prices, major oil exporters were forced to re-evaluate their currencies, sell their assets and even announce debts for the first time as they try to improve their financial condition. OPEC, led by Saudi Arabia, continued with their policy to flood the market with their high production. The policy was not expected to change despite the fact that lower prices will burden the cartel members.

Vice President Wants Indonesia to Become the World's Largest Cocoa Producer. `Currently our cocoa production is still ranked third in the world below Ivory Coast and Ghana. With 1.7 million hectares of land, Indonesia can actually become the world’s number one,` he said in Kendari, Sunday.The expected increase is the farmers’ production which previously only 500 kg/hectare is increased to one tonne/hectare.To realize it, intensification of extension is needed so that cocoa farmers can understand how to cultivate the commodity well.`There must be assistance, extension and seedlings for farmers so that our farmers can increase their production,` he said.Focus on resolving the problem of inadequate extension and lack of seedlings which is deemed some of the main problems of the commodity development in the country, in addition to the age of plants which has also grown old thus decreasing the productivity.That is why there should be plant rejuvenation. In addition, farmers must also be supported by giving capital assistance in the form of people’s business credit (KUR) to assist them in terms of capital.

Tocom Rubber Futures Edge Lower As Oil Retreats; Asia Stocks Drop. Crude oil prices rose for a second straight session as short covering lifted U.S. crude nearly 3 percent on Wednesday, December 16, settling at $37.35 a barrel, up $1.04, or 2.86 percent. Brent settled up 49 cents, or 1.29 percent, at $38.41 a barrel.
However, in early Asian trading Thursday, West Texas Intermediate fell 5 cents to 36.26 by 0024 GMT. Prices are still down amid concerns about a global glut and mild winter demand.
On the other hand, the most active rubber contract on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange, for May 2016 delivery, was down 0.1 yen to 162.0 yen per kg, from Wednesday's close of 162.1 yen per kg.
Vibiz Research Center Analyst predicts that Tocom rubber futures prices will continue to be pressured by falling global crude oil prices. The Japanese yen's exchange rate also needs to be taken into account. Tocom natural rubber prices are most strongly influenced by these two indicators.
Tocom rubber futures will test support at 157.00 yen and 152.00 yen. Resistance will be encountered at 167.00 and 172.00 yen if prices turn positive.

ICE Sugar Rises on Production Deficit. Traders said sugar was supported by Platts Kingsman's forecast of a wider global deficit at 7.8 million tonnes in 2016/17 (October-September) because of higher-than-expected consumption.
Sugar markets have been underpinned by energy prices as more mills in Brazil divert cane towards producing ethanol.
Sugar futures were also supported by rains in Brazil's cane belt that is hampering the remnants of the harvest in the center-south.
`In southern-central Brazil, seasonal rains continued through the first half of December and are forecast to continue into next week, hampering the remaining harvesting efforts,` said Michael Liddiard, consultant at Agrilion.
Raw sugar futures for March, the most active contract on ICE Futures U.S., were up 0.08 cent, or 0.55 percent, at 14.59 cents a lb. The contract has gained about 0.9 percent this week.
Analysts said concern over production shortfalls will remain supportive in the next session. The market will also continue to watch the movement of the Brazilian real against the U.S. dollar.
ICE Futures New York raw sugar is expected to test a support at 14.20 cents per pound, a break below could cause a further drop to 13.80 cents. Resistance is at 15.00 cents and 15.40 cents.
