Trade Expo Indonesia in Qatar a Success. Counsellor of the Indonesian Embassy in Qatar, Boy Dharmawan, told ANTARA on Monday that apart from Indonesia, other ASEAN members who also presented the potential for investment and their business ventures were Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The event attended by around 200 business actors from ASEAN and Qatar was opened with remarks by QCCI Deputy Chairman Muhammed Bin Ahmed Bin Towar Al Kuwari and ACD 2016 Chairman Singapore Ambassador Wong Kwok Pun.
Abu Dhabi, Deputy Director of Indonesia Trade Promotion Center Dubai, Bagas Haryotejo, said the 2016 Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) is Indonesias largest annual trade fair.
 
He said the TEI in 2015 was attended by 1,046 exhibitors and more than 14 thousand overseas business actors. Apart from promoting the TEI, he also presented the potential for business and investment in the downstreaming of agricultural and mining products.Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, Air Marshal (Ret.) Muhammad Basri Sidehabi, said the seminar was a follow-up to the meeting between the Indonesian-chaired ASEAN ambassadors and the QCCI on December 13.In the one-on-one meeting, Ambassador Sidehabi presented the various concrete steps and strategies taken by the government to make Indonesia an attractive destination for business and investment to domestic and foreign investors, including through an online system and one-stop service.He added that for investors meeting certain criteria, Indonesia will speed up the issuance of business permits to a maximum of three hours, especially those located in industrial zones.Based on observations and feedback from participants, Qatar business actors and investors generally see ASEAN, in particular Indonesia, as a destination for business and investment, which is reflected in the increasing realization of Qatari investment in Indonesia.Ambassador Sidehabi expressed that Qatari investment commitments in Indonesia have shown an increasing trend since President Jokowis September 2015 visit. It was conveyed that in order to increase the flow of foreign investment, the Jokowi-JK government issued policy packages on investment to reduce bureaucracy.

Alex K Eddy, Chairman of the Indonesian Rubber Entrepreneurs Association in the South Sumatra Province in Palembang, on Sunday, said that the rubber sales chain from farmers to factories was too long because there could be two to three middlemen. `This is a problem, which is why there is a significant price difference between the price farmers sell their rubber for and the price that factories buy it for,` he said. If the length of the rubber sales chain could be shortened, then at the very least, farmers would be able to sell their rubber for the price that factories buy it for, which is around Rp7000 per kg. Currently, because there are middlemen, farmers are only able to sell their rubber for Rp4000 per kg. `It is not possible to build a factory in the plantation area. The only solution is to fix the road infrastructure because in several plantation areas, you still have to travel by land for 8-9 hours to get to the city (such as from Muarabelitung to Palembang),` he said. Therefore, middlemen are forced to offer low prices because of the high transportation costs. `This is what sometimes causes a dilemma; the farmers themselves do not have vehicles to sell their rubber directly to factories, so they really need middlemen, but sometimes the prices offered by the middlemen are very low.` he said. The global rubber price started to rise in March due to the recovery of the oil price this week. At the beginning of March, it was still under one dollar per kg, but now it has reached 1.3 dollars per kg. Rubber prices at the farmer level have plunged since the middle of last year to around Rp4500 because of low export absorption due to the global economic slowdown. Previously, the Ogan Komering Ilir District Government said they were prepared to assist with funding for residents who wanted to clear their land of rubber trees to turn it into rice fields. This assistance is in response to the wishes of their residents whose incomes have suffered in the last two years because of the fall in the rubber price. (D019/B012)

The U.S. currency extended a four-day advance as traders bet the Federal Reserve is preparing to raise interest rates at every meeting where economic data allows for tighter monetary policy. Energy producers led declines in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, which fell for the first time in two weeks and drove the Russell 2000 Index down 2 percent. A rebound that poised to turn the S&P 500 green was reversed as raw materials extended losses, with the Bloomberg Commodity Index posting its worst two-day drop in two months. Emerging-market stocks also retreated after a five-day rally, and gold tumbled more than 2 percent. `The big story the last couple of months has been the loss of confidence and then the regain of confidence, and the market continues to struggle with the implications of what the Fed is going to do,` said Brad McMillan, chief investment officer for Commonwealth Financial Network in Waltham, Massachusetts. The U.S. dollar advanced for a fourth day versus the euro, according to the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index. The greenback rose 0.7 percent in New York against a basket of 10 currencies. The dollar also gained against all but two of 16 major peers, climbing 0.3 percent to $1.1183 per euro and adding 0.1 percent to 112.42 yen.

Weak CPO Price Eroded by Ringgit Strengthening and Crude Oil Weakening. US dollar snapped lower against the ringgit this afternoon, with the US dollar-ringgit exchange rate seen falling -0.04% to 3.9793. The stronger ringgit has led to the price of commodities traded in ringgit becoming relatively higher for overseas buyers, resulting in reduced demand.

CPO prices this afternoon were also weighed down by declines in the price of crude oil. The fall in oil prices has acted as a negative sentiment, causing CPO prices to continue their downward trend. The fall in oil prices has in turn reduced demand for alternative fuels, such as those made from CPO.
Oil prices fell in early Asian trading on Wednesday after figures from an industry group showed U.S. stockpiles had risen more than expected.
The front-month contract in U.S. crude futures was down 36 cents at $41.09 a barrel by 0047 GMT.It struck a 2016 high of $41.90 in the previous session before closing at $41.45.
Brent crude was 25 cents lower at $41.54, reversing gains in the previous session when it finished at $41.79.

The most actively traded CPO contract on the Malaysian commodities exchange today experienced a decline in June 2016. The most actively traded contract experienced a decline of 31 ringgit and is currently trading at 2,681 ringgit per ton.
Vibiz Research Center analysts have estimated that there is a possibility that the price of CPO futures in the following trading period will decline, as the potential decline in the price of crude oil has triggered a sentiment of global satiety as well as a strengthening of the ringgit. Price movements could also be influenced by the supply and demand of the global market.
May 2016 CPO futures contracts on the Malaysian commodities exchange have the potential to test the support level of 2,630 ringgit and 2,580 ringgit. Meanwhile, in the event that prices recover, the resistance level that will be tested is 2,730 ringgit and 2,780 ringgit.

Coffee Price is Predicted to Soar Due to El Nino Effects. On Tuesday's (22/3/2016) trading at 17:54 WIB, coffee prices for May 2016 contracts rose 1.3 points or 0.99% to US$132.85 per pound.
Global coffee demand will exceed supply by 4 million bags in the season starting October 1. In the previous period, the deficit reached 4.8 million bags. The estimated capacity of 1 bag is 132 pounds or 60 kilograms.
Tristao Trading Co. futures company in Brazil believes that coffee stocks in Negeri Samba on June 30 will reach their lowest level in 15 years.
Managing Director of Coex Coffee Group based in Miami, Ernesto Alvarez, said that global supply is very fragile, potentially boosting prices. This statement also concludes the results of the National Coffee Association conference in San Diego, which took place from March 15-17, 2016.
